i think you can learn something from everything.

i'm a pretty paranoid person, everyone who knows me knows this. so it's pretty obvious that i would be afraid of someone breaking into my apartment and stealing copious amounts of valuable things. well on monday it happened. I came home from being in austin all day at a conference to find my door unlocked and multiple things missing (list at the bottom of the post). needless to say i had a panic attack and called my dad and the police. the police came and took a report and left. then i was in my closet / server room and noticed a lot of drywall dust. it occured to me over the weekend that someone might try to break in though the attic, so i called the police again. the same officer came back and i told him what i thought might have happened. he climbed in to the attic to find foot prints and a hole in the wall between my attic and my neighbor's attic. he said he would speak to my neighbor, but he wasn't home at the time. after he left my dad and i changed all the locks on my apt and put one on my closet door. while we were doing this my neighbor came home and started acting very helpful. a couple of hours later the police came and questioned my neighbor. they asked me to look into his car and see if i saw anything that was mine, which i did. after that they said they had enough evidence to arrest him. i was in my apt for a couple of hours after that and then at around three am the police came back and said they had recovered my psp games, cam corder and laptop. they said they would keep looking for the other stuff and then left again. after that i figured all was done for the night and went to bed, but at around four am they came back and had almost all of my stuff. so now the only things i'm missing are my nintendo ds, the ds games, my ihome alarm clock and some xbox 360 games.

so all of this got me thinking. why did it happen? was God trying to give me a message? I've had problems being materialistic in the past, but i felt that i had mostly gotten over that. i'm still not certain what the meaning behind all of this is, but i am reminded of a song that says, "the lord giveth and taketh away." i think that maybe He was saying, "Look dude, i've been blessing you, but if you act dumb i can take it all away again." maybe he was also trying to make me be thankful for his blessings. so yeh...

oh and i had an unexpected conversation today and are happy with the result of such.

xbox 360 w/ games
nindendo ds w/ games
psp w/ games
les paul std guitar w/ cords and pedals
fender telecaster guitar
macbook laptop
ihome ipod clock/radio
sony camcorder
verona 12 gauge semi-automatic shotgun
a can of change

it seems like there was some other stuff too, but i can't remember it.
