I kept hearing good things about a band called vampire weekend on the interwebs and finally saw a video for their single, a-punk, so when i saw thier debut record for only $8.95 at waterloo i figured i might as well give it a try.
Honestly I had been expecting something like the strokes' first record from vampire weekend, but instead was greeted with a set of very decidedly reggae-esqe songs. I tried to like it, but after three listens while driving around Austin I've decided I'm not really a fan at the moment. I'll probably listen to the album again in a week or two and re-evaluate my current stance.
Tiger Lou, who's record i was actually looking for, was no where to be found in Austin. I wasn't surprised when best buy didn't have it, but was in fact surprised when waterloo records, who usually has most records i'm looking for on hand, did not have it. I suppose I could purchase it on iTunes or something, but for some reason in my mind there's a certain magic to opening a new album, putting it in the player and looking at the art work / liner notes, so i had waterloo special order it for me.
being a music fan is hard these days. There's just so much mediocrity out there and it's hard to tell when a solid single is going to be backed by an entire record of fluff. Thankfully most records you can stream in their entirety on myspace or other such sites, but then again there are a lot of records you cannot.
I also went to the doctor today, which was coincidental since i happened to be sick this morning. I'm not sure what the deal was, but when i woke up it hurt to move, my throat was sore, I had a headache and there were some other pleasantries going on. I spent most of the morning trying to sleep it off, which for the most part worked, although at this time I'm starting to feel some of the same symptoms again.
The doctor seemed to think i was in good health and said he felt that i had a good grip on my diabetes and could probably live for another sixty to seventy years. This fact was also confirmed last week in a visit to my dietary specialist. It would seem that I have a pretty good grip on this whole diabetes thing, which is nice to know and relieves a lot of worry.
